This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for designing, supporting, and continuously improving hybrid ICT environments across infrastructure, cloud, and enterprise systems.
You will operate with a high level of autonomy, acting as a technical SME, leading infrastructure projects, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring systems remain secure, reliable, and scalable.
The Role As an ICT Systems Engineer, you will:
- Provide advanced Level 2/3 support for escalated infrastructure and systems issues
- Design, implement, and optimise hybrid environments across Azure, Microsoft 365, and on-prem infrastructure
- Lead infrastructure projects including upgrades, migrations, rollouts, and system improvements
- Act as SME for assigned platforms, accountable for performance, availability, and compliance
- Proactively monitor systems, identify risks, and recommend improvements aligned with best practice
- Ensure environments meet security and compliance frameworks including Essential Eight and NIST/ISO
- Contribute to business continuity, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies
- Automate administrative tasks, monitoring, alerting, and reporting to improve efficiency
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation and operational procedures
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership
- Deliver onsite and remote support across multiple locations as required
- Participate in after-hours work occasionally for critical upgrades and patching
You are a senior systems engineer who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and improving environments end-to-end. You’re confident working independently while collaborating closely with ICT leadership and stakeholders.
Essential experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in a systems engineering or infrastructure role
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and Active Directory
- Proven experience designing and supporting hybrid infrastructure environments
- Solid understanding of Essential Eight and NIST/ISO security frameworks
- Experience delivering complex ICT projects with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
- Microsoft Azure certification (Administrator Associate or higher)
- Cisco CCNA and/or HPE Aruba certifications
- IT degree or diploma
- Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Python)
- ITIL knowledge
- Experience in regulated or not-for-profit environments
