The Team
3 key entitities have partnered to deliver a Shared Pathology Service across 10+ hospital locations and 20+ collection sites. This is part of a broader state-wide reform by the Victorian Government to modernise and centralise public pathology services.

At the core of this transformation is the implementation of a new Shared Laboratory Information System (LIS), and we’re seeking a Medical Device Integration (MDI) Specialist to help connect critical diagnostic instruments and pathology devices into this new digital ecosystem.

The role
As an MDI Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in integrating digital pathology
instruments and middleware into the new LIS.

Working with internal teams and external vendors, you’ll support interface build, testing, go-live deployment, and post-go-live stabilisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end setup and integration of diagnostic pathology instruments into the Shared LIS.
  • Collaborate with clinical pathology teams, LIS experts, and middleware vendors to configure, test, and validate device-to-system connections.
  • Conduct and support System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for all MDI streams.
  • Support the interface deployment for Go-Live and provide hands-on troubleshooting during hypercare and post-Go-Live phases.
  • Liaise with device vendors and internal IT teams to ensure configuration meets both vendor specs and clinical workflow requirements.
What You Bring
  • 3–5+ years hands-on experience integrating pathology instruments with LIS platforms (e.g., Cerner PathNet or similar)
  • Familiarity with instrument middleware systems (e.g., Data Innovations, Abbott, Siemens CentraLink, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of device communications protocols (e.g., ASTM, serial, TCP/IP), networking, and firewall port configurations.
  • Experience with pathology workflows and laboratory instrumentation across disciplines such as chemistry, haematology, and microbiology.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, clinical environments and liaising directly with pathologists, lab managers, and vendors.
Why Join This Project?
  • Be part of a flagship digital health transformation in Victoria
  • Collaborate with major public health networks across a dynamic delivery team
  • Contribute to cutting-edge medical device integration in a meaningful, high impact program
  • Located in Melbourne with 2–3 days onsite (flexible hybrid model)
  • Fixed-term contract with a competitive salary of $130K–$150K + Super
  • Excellent perks and benefits that elevate the package
