As the Freedom of Information Specialist , you will be responsible for managing Freedom of Information (FOI) and information access requests while ensuring compliance with relevant Victorian legislation. You will also provide expert advice across the organization, contribute to policy development, and help strengthen best practices in information management.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Freedom of Information (FOI) and information access requests in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) , Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) , Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) , and other applicable legislation.
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and training on FOI and information access matters.
- Prepare documentation in response to subpoenas.
- Collaborate with the Information Management team to promote best-practice recordkeeping.
- Develop and maintain FOI policies, procedures, templates, and guidelines.
- Maintain Council's FOI webpage, including the Part II Statement.
- Prepare and submit annual reporting requirements to the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC).
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders while promoting compliance with information release practices.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or significant equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience processing Freedom of Information (FOI) and information access requests within a complex organization.
- Strong working knowledge of Victorian FOI, privacy, and health records legislation.
- Experience providing specialist advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven experience developing policies, procedures, reports, and operational guidelines.
- Experience designing and delivering organization-wide FOI training and awareness programs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet legislative timeframes.
