The Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving Council’s technology infrastructure, including on-premises systems, cloud platforms, and network services across the municipality.
About the role-
Specialist knowledge & skills:
- Applied expertise in IT infrastructure systems, including Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, storage systems, and virtualisation technologies with demonstrated ability in system configuration and support
- Demonstrated ability to administer cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Azure, including user management, service configuration, and compliance settings
- Demonstrated ability to manage device deployment and compliance using tools such as Microsoft Intune, including packaging and rollout of applications and updates
- Sound understanding of data backup, restoration, and disaster recovery processes in an enterprise environment
- Sound understanding of networking principles (e.g. IP addressing, VLANs, routing) relevant to infrastructure troubleshooting and integration
The following qualifications and experience are required for the position:
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related discipline, with equivalent relevant experience, or lesser formal qualification with substantial relevant experience.
- Some (1-2 years) experience in the following areas:
- Administration and support of enterprise IT infrastructure, including Microsoft-based environments
- Supporting cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Azure within a structured IT service delivery framework
- Device management and deployment tools (e.g. Microsoft Intune) to support enterprise environment
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Modern Desktop Administrator, or equivalent is desirable
- ITIL Foundation certification or working knowledge of ITIL processes is desirable
- Experience working in Local Government or a comparable regulated public sector environment is desirable
- Valid Right to Work in Australia
- Undertake and maintain a current National Criminal Records Check
- Hold and maintain a Working with Children Check
- Pre-employment Medical Assessment
- Pre-employment Health Declaration
- Driver’s License valid in Victoria
- Required to travel regularly to Council offices and sites across the municipality to support and maintain infrastructure and systems
